Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight – Review

November 21, 2009

I heard about this Rujuta’s book in a post by Rashmi Bansal. I’m for last three years trying to get into mode of slimming. All I’ve succeeded is to increase my waist line from 32 to 33 inches. All I do about exercises and diets is follow hearsay. I thought reading this book will be help me get real on this topic, rather that follow what people say.

I must say, this book turned out to be an eye opener. I realized the extent of abuse my stomach has taken by not feeding it right. The book tries to explains loosing weight by feeding our stomach right based on our daily activities, rather than to starve and loose weight.

First of all the organization of the book is excellent. What I mean is the flow. Rujuta first gives some real life cases and describes them. These cases allow us to understand how badly we abuse our stomach and clears the myths associated with weight loss and diets. Then she goes on explaining the importance of the nutrients (carb, fat, protiens, minerals, vitamins) and their role in body. Once all this is understood she explains the 4 golden rules of healthy eating habits, nothing complicated, its very simple to follow.

She tries to make understand that loosing weight is not all about working-out or starving. Its about eating healthy nutritious food in right quantity at right time, with a bit of work out and this will require some amount of change in our life style.

Quote from the book

“There is no such thing as going ‘on or ‘off’ your diet. Eating correctly is a lifelong commitment, and the diet should be a reflection of this.”

There is no magic formula in the book, most of it common sense that we either tend to neglect or oversimplify. The book makes you aware of the cause and effect of eating right and not eating right. So it kind of brings about a difference in the way you think about diet and weight loss.

Quote from the book

“Love and respect your body, Everything is ok in moderation, Think of nutrients, not calories”

I’d say this is a good read for anyone wanting to be fit. If you can follow her advice and become fit, the reading will be worth it. I’m trying hard to make my read worth it 🙂 let see how the result turns out…

Fatness can lead to ‘brain shrinkage’

August 26, 2009

The moment I shared this news with a friend, she was quick to point out we will get back to being monkeys. Yes big fat old monkeys. The only thing that differentiates us from the rest is the big lazy brain we are all blessed with. If that start shrinking we might get back to being monkeys, reverse evolution. Older one gets, more the monkey he or she will be.

Be Tall and Be Happy

July 30, 2009

If you are not happy and your height falls below 5 ft. 10 in. for males and 5 ft. 4 in. for females, then you can blame it on your height.

Height and Happiness: Why Tall People Are Happier – TIME

According to a paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research, both men and women who are above average height — 5 ft. 10 in. for males, 5 ft. 4 in. for females — report higher levels of happiness than smaller people.

The study does not say anything bad about the short people. But it basically points out the advantages of being tall, that helps them boost self-esteem, helps to be more calmer and easy going. One point I agree is that the tall people do not need to crave for attention, they always get it, males or females. That I feel is very important to boost ones self-esteem. High self esteem induces faith in ones abilities and confidence to face life and enjoy it.

This is not to generalize that short people suffer from low self esteem. But being tall has a lot of benefits.

Young Simona Halep under the scanner

July 12, 2009

Read this news today.

Simona Halep has her bust reduced
Junior tennis player gets her 34DD bust reduced
What has Simona been reduced to?

First thought that struck me was Simona Halep is very serious about her tennis career. At age of 17 if she is ready to go under the knife to improve her game.

Then a man’s brain took over, how have I not heard of this lady ? Does she really have biggies ? Let me google a bit kinds.

Found a petition online to the Romanian govt to prevent her going from under the knife. Then found this story on digg. Reading the comments I for once forgot that this lady is a tennis star !!!

With Internet some times things can get very awkward, every move a person make will be under the scanner and the views of all with good or bad intentions be out published for rest of the world to read. And create a impression of the person which may not be really true.

Wondering how would Simona react if she happened to read through these comments. May be just dismiss it or may be think may be think that she should have done this long time ago to get rid of all these perverts.

Anyways All the best with your game Simona.
