Fatness can lead to ‘brain shrinkage’

The moment I shared this news with a friend, she was quick to point out we will get back to being monkeys. Yes big fat old monkeys. The only thing that differentiates us from the rest is the big lazy brain we are all blessed with. If that start shrinking we might get back to being monkeys, reverse evolution. Older one gets, more the monkey he or she will be.

    Hi SPB,

I don’t agree with this… I’ve known people who’re overweight but are amazingly brillient & very active.

I think being overweight does make one lethargic, but that doesn’t mean all thin people are hyper-active. It, still, depends on the individual.

So – the research/article should’ve actually said – “Lethargy can lead to ‘brain shrinkage'”. :-))

I don’t think the article meant it as a general statement, as I did put it for fun. It is some thing like in most cases fatness can lead to brain shrinkage in older people…

Anyway we have one more evolutionary gift which separates us from the apes, our opposing thumb. So it’s a long way to go before we can twist that back again.
